The RedBull Flugtag Portland

A crowded event with a lot of people and boats and interesting sights. I put some of the better photos up on flickr. You can see those after the read more link. The rest will be in the gallery.

What started as a very earnest effort to get there early get a spot and be prepared for the next day's activities, turned into a late night trying to get teh boat to stay in one place, pick up my wife, more supplies that I forgot, and a slow start partly due to Tequila and Corona.

Let me just go on the record that when you are drinking in a boat on the river, it is hard to tell if you are wobbling back and forth because of the liquor or the waves.

 

 

The morning started with the sound of a boat passing. I got up to check it out and never really got back to sleep. I wandered out to the deck and started talking with two people in a ski boat. After chatting a while they offered to let us tie up with them near the front. This looked promising. From what I had heard there would be a LOT of boats on the water today. There WERE a LOT of boats on the water. We managed out to the area about 12:30. By that time the place was thick, and I did not have the stomach to go wandering through the crowded areas with a large boat. We ended up anchoring up far enough away to not be able to see anything in great detail. Oh well. Maybe next time, we will be more prepared.

 

We still had a good, day, everyone pitched in for gas which allowed us to wander up the Willamette to Oregon City before calling it a day. After that it was a long ride home to Hayden Island. We had fun, I hope everyone else had fun too.
